Unsafe injection practices put your patients at risk for infectious and non-infectious diseases, and have been associated with adverse events in a wide variety of health care settings. To help raise awareness of this issue — and stress its importance — the Joint Commission recently published a Sentinel Event Alert, “Preventing Infection from the Misuse of Vials.” Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) public health campaign, “The One and Only Campaign” (a coalition that provides education on safe injection practices) is designed to raise awareness about safe injection practices.
