Digital Pathology Program at NYU Langone
NYU Langone Health has launched a comprehensive Digital Pathology Program, transitioning from traditional glass slides and microscopes to high-resolution digital imaging. This shift allows for real-time collaboration across the hospital network, significantly reducing diagnosis times and eliminating the risks associated with physical slide storage and degradation.
By digitizing tissue samples, the health system is also paving the way for AI-assisted diagnostics, which aim to identify diseases like cancer at earlier, more treatable stages while addressing the national shortage of specialized pathologists.
Wearable Device May Help Restore Speech in Stroke Patients
Researchers from the University of Cambridge have developed Revoice, a non-invasive, AI-powered wearable choker designed to restore natural communication for stroke patients with dysarthria.
By using ultra-sensitive sensors to capture throat muscle vibrations and heart rate signals, the device decodes silently mouthed words and emotional cues to reconstruct them into full, fluent sentences in real time. In small-scale trials, the system achieved a word error rate of just 4.2% and significantly increased patient satisfaction by offering a portable alternative to invasive brain implants.
New Therapy for Patients with Treatment-Resistant Depression
According to a new CNN article, researchers are highlighting Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy (SAINT) as a breakthrough for individuals with treatment-resistant depression.
Unlike traditional transcranial magnetic stimulation, which can take several weeks, this FDA-cleared protocol uses functional MRI to precisely target the brain’s mood-regulating circuits and delivers intensive treatment in just five days. Clinical studies have shown significant promise, with some reporting remission rates as high as 79%, offering a rapid and non-invasive alternative for patients who have not found relief through medication or therapy.
Addressing Supply Chain Shortages with Strategic Partnerships
According to the Becker’s Hospital Review article, healthcare supply chain leaders are moving away from simple transactional vendor relationships in favor of strategic partnerships to combat rising costs and operational risks.
By deepening collaborations with distributors and specialized cost-reduction firms, hospitals are implementing shared governance and real-time data transparency to ensure “supply assurance.” This shift from arm’s-length contracts to integrated alliances allows health systems to better manage disruptions, standardize products across networks and reinvest the resulting savings into clinical care.
Why It Matters to Feel Like You Matter
In this article, author Jennifer Breheny Wallace explores the concept of “mattering”; the fundamental human need to feel valued by others and to add value to the world, with CNN Health.
Wallace feels that much of the modern mental health crisis, including rising rates of loneliness and burnout, stems from an “erosion of mattering” where people prioritize prestige and achievement over genuine connection. To combat this, she suggests building a “mattering core” by investing in deep relationships, being truly known by others and finding small, intentional ways to be of service to those around you.
