MLMIC is sponsoring the Richmond County Medical Society “Life After Training” event, a dinner meeting in Staten Island focusing on issues faced by medical students, residents and fellows.

MSSNY has once again awarded MLMIC’s CME Program “Accreditation with Commendation.” This accreditation term is for six years – the longest period of time for which accreditation can be awarded.

MLMIC will be sending Section 18 excess insurance renewal notices to policyholders May 1. Renewal applications are due prior to July 1 and may be submitted through MLMIC’s secure policyholder portal. Excess insurance provides an important layer of insurance protection to policyholders.

Designed for physicians from all specialties, the New York Health Information Technology Symposium on April 28 will examine issues with EHR technology. The event qualifies physicians for 5 CME credits.

The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) and MLMIC are collaborating to conduct an in-depth analysis of claims data. This effort will explore potential linkages between patient safety protocols, patient health outcomes and adverse events.

New York is among only three states with total medical malpractice payouts exceeding $300 million in 2017. In addition, its total payout of $617,973,000 earns it the distinction as the state with the highest per capita payout ($313) in the nation.

At the upcoming New York State Osteopathic Medical Society (NYSOMS) Regional Osteopathic Convention (ROC-NY), MLMIC legal and risk management experts will be presenting on two topics: one related to litigation and the other to social media.

The Spring 2018 edition of Dateline – the newsletter for MLMIC-insured physicians and facilities – includes resources on topics like EHR metadata, noncompliant patients, medical marijuana and hand-off communication.
