Large Language Model Identifies Thrombolysis Contraindications in the Electronic Health Record

Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic found that a Large Language Model can identify thrombolysis contraindications in electronic health records with 94.9% sensitivity and 99% accuracy.

The model analyzed physician notes for stroke patients in about 14 seconds, significantly faster than manual review. While the study noted some false positives due to a lack of structured lab data, the results suggest a “human-plus-AI” workflow could effectively standardize and accelerate life-saving decision-making in time-critical stroke evaluations.

Rural Hospital in Chautauqua Reopens and Expands Behavioral Health Services

The former TLC-Lakeshore Hospital in Irving, NY, is being repurposed to reopen as a New York Medical Center facility focused on behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment.

Closed since 2020, the site is undergoing a $40 million renovation to address a critical shortage of mental health services in Chautauqua County. The new center plans to offer specialized care including pediatric, adolescent and geriatric psychiatric beds with an initial 25 beds expected to open as early as late spring or summer 2026.

Researchers Found Cats’ Cancer Genes Are Similar to Humans

A groundbreaking study published in Science has revealed that cancer in domestic cats shares remarkable genetic similarities with human versions of the disease, particularly in breast cancer.

By sequencing nearly 500 feline tumors, researchers identified that many of the same “driver” genes such as TP53 and FBXW7 that cause cancer in humans are also responsible for tumors in cats. This could potentially lead to new treatments that benefit both cats and humans.
