Assistant Vice President of Market Management and Business Development

MLMIC Insurance Company is based in New York state and has specialized in providing professional liability insurance for NY physicians since 1975. After operating independently and as a mutual insurance company for most of its existence, MLMIC was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway in the fall of 2018.

We continue to be the most significant writer of professional medical liability insurance in the State of New York. We provide insurance for physicians, dentists, and hospitals. Be a part of the Market Management team for NY/NE, manage and oversee the Business Development Department and work with the distribution partners in NY/NE to shape, develop, and optimize long-term profitable growth strategies/objectives in Physicians & Surgeon and Facility accounts. In this shared role, the successful candidate will lend their expertise to MLMIC Services, Inc. and MedPro Group.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and direct members of the MLMIC Business Development Department to ensure successful marketing campaigns dictated by company goals and opportunities as presented in the marketplace.
  • Educate, motivate, and influence distribution partners (DPs); earn trust of DPs and provide sales tools and support for their success, making MLMIC/ MedPro Group (M2) the market of choice for them and their customers/prospects.
  • Promote profitable growth through competitor analysis, product and service differentiation, and remedying pricing inefficiencies; identify new business opportunities (e.g., target specialties, groups, and/or geographies) and coordinate with DPs to win that business as well as MLMIC’s direct book of business.
  • Coordinate game plans, such as new business and retention market capture strategies, with individual DPs; hold DPs accountable for performance-related commitments.
  • Lead formal presentations to Direct Accounts and DPs and/or prospects to sell M2 and win business in the market; schedule and execute relevant and impactful meetings with DPs (individually or as part of group sessions).
  • Participate in tradeshows and conferences within NY/NE territory and effectively represents M2 to attendees.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with countrywide Market Management team in serving as NY/NE territory subject matter expert, coordinating across the Market Management team on cross-region and cross-distribution opportunities.
  • Develop and continually refine a territory’s various distribution sources to maximize short- and long-term profitable growth opportunities.
  • Work with our Endorsed Partners to support organized medicine and promote MLMIC
  • Collaborate with the Sr VP of Underwriting of MLMIC and develop and achieve goals within New York territory for new business, retention, pricing, submission activity, and efficiency (i.e., hit ratio).
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with all other departments of MLMIC/MedPro and support staff to achieve regional and corporate objectives; in concert with Underwriting, negotiates with DPs, customers, and/or prospects to ensure optimal profitability with respect to pricing, terms, and conditions.
  • Practice thrifty expense management, optimally using travel and living (T&L) and business development budget to achieve annual marketing and DP management goals and objectives.
  • Manage DP contracts with General Counsel
  • Provide statistical information to Senior Management when requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5-7 years relevant healthcare professional liability experience to include working knowledge of agency/brokerage relations.
  • Outstanding negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making and strategic-thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong proficiency level with office support tools and operating systems (i.e. CRM, Microsoft Office suite)
  • Experience in the New York/Northeast market/territory (strongly preferred).
  • Willingness to travel and reside in the Northeast/ New Jersey/New York.
