MLMIC Mourns the Loss of NYSDA Executive Director Dr. Mark Feldman
It was with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of our colleague, Dr. Mark Feldman, after a long illness.
For many years, Dr. Feldman led the New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) as its executive director. He also served on the MLMIC Board of Directors. His colleagues remember him as a man of unfailing grace and charm who believed passionately in MLMIC’s mission.
“I will always remember his constant smile and his willingness to help others,” said Dr. John Lombardo, MLMIC’s chief medical officer.
Dr. Feldman previously served as the president of the American Dental Association (ADA). He was known for his extraordinary leadership and his unparalleled accomplishments at all levels of organized dentistry.
“Dr. Feldman has been one of the brightest stars in the dental community,” reads a statement on NYSDA’s website. “He always served with diligence, honesty, civility and an enduring sense of service to the associations and its members. His knowledge, compassion, leadership and laughter will be sorely missed.”
During the pandemic, Dr. Feldman was a proponent of teledentistry and appeared on WNYT’s Health Beat with Dr. Benita Zahn to discuss the possibilities of the virtual service. He emphasized the importance of dental telehealth for improving access to care during COVID-19 and ongoing.
“Please remember that when you go to the dentist, it’s safe, and don’t delay your [oral] care,” said Dr. Feldman. “It’s a very essential service, part of your overall regular health.”
Dr. Feldman also advocated for the reopening of school-based dental services which were shut down at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The residual effects of not meeting the oral health needs of children during the pandemic will have a lasting impact,” said Dr. Feldman. “NYSDA has always supported access to care for children and adults.”
The Feldman family suggests any memorial contributions be made to the New York State Dental Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
