New Idea for EHRs: Let Patients “Set the Agenda”

Encouraging patients to be active participants in their healthcare plans may improve patient safety and satisfaction. A study recently published in the Annals of Family Medicine, explored allowing patients to “set the agenda” by entering into the electronic health record (EHR) the reasons or concerns they would like to discuss during their visit. Promoting patient engagement through their direct contribution visit notes may provide physicians with invaluable insight into patients’ understanding and perceptions of their diagnoses and health issues.  Click here to read a synopsis of the study findings from Physician Practice Insider.  The full article may be found here in the Annals of Family Medicine.
