MLMIC has released an updated version of its Proactive Basic Risk Management Course as part of its ongoing commitment help physicians and other healthcare professionals improve the quality of patient care and reduce potential liability exposure in their practices.

The use of patient safety indicators provides a useful tool for examining preventable causes of potential patient injury and an opportunity to improve the quality of patient care and reduce the exposure to claims of malpractice.

As the New York State Legislature enters the second half of the 2017 legislative session, MLMIC has released a second issue of The Albany Report.

With a focus on risk management education, this year’s Spring Network Meetings address “2017 Healthcare Law Review.” Physicians, medical directors, facility risk managers, office practice administrators, nursing, staff and other healthcare professionals can still register for the six remaining meetings held across the state.

The CDC estimates that half of surgical site infections (SSIs) are preventable with evidence-based strategies. MLMIC urges all insureds to familiarize themselves with the CDC recommendations.

At MLMIC’s Board of Directors Meeting on May 3, Dr. Robert Menotti affirmed his retirement as President and Chairman of the Company. Subsequently, the Board elected Dr. James Reed to serve as Chairman and Dr. John Lombardo to serve as President.

A new MLMIC publication, The Albany Report, is intended to enhance this advocacy by providing policyholders with a concise, insiders’ view of pending legislative, regulatory and political developments that have an impact on the NYS medical malpractice insurance marketplace.

MLMIC is holding its spring Network Meetings throughout May and June in multiple locations across the state. These programs are designed to provide risk management education to our insured physicians, medical directors, facility risk managers, office practice administrators, nursing staff and other healthcare professionals.

MLMIC will now write and provide the Section 18 excess insurance previously written and provided by Healthcare Professionals Insurance Company (HPIC).

The Spring 2017 issue of Dateline is now available online. It provides a number of resources, including notes on the trend in summary judgments and recommendations for avoiding patient identification errors.
